Dethier, Gaston (Gustav) Marie. Studied at the Liége Conservatory, winning a gold medal for piano, organ, and fugue; in Paris with Alexandre Guilmant. Organist at St. Jacques, Liége, 1886; St. Christopher, Liège; St. Francis Xavier, New York, U.S.A., 1894-1907; recital organist at the Institute of Musical Art, New York, 1907-45; a founder of the American Guild of Organists. Professor at the Institute of Musical Art, New York. Moved to New York, U.S.A., 1894. Composed organ music. Son of Emile Dethier. b. Liége, Belgium, Apr. 18th, 1875; d. New York City, U.S.A., May 26th, 1958.
