Monk, Dr Mark James. Mus.B. (Oxon, 1878), Mus.D. (Oxon, 1888), F.R.C.O. Chorister and studied at York Minster, 1867-78, under Dr Edwin George Monk. Assistant organist of York Minster, -1879; in York; organist of St. John’s, Ladywood, Birmingham, 1879-80; Ashby-de-la-Zouch Parish Church, 1880-83; Banbury Parish Church, 1883-90; Truro Cathedral, 1890-1920. Conducted the Truto Philharmonic. Composed church music, a madrigal, an elegiac ode, piano and organ pieces, &c. Father of Edwin L. Monk. b. Hunmanby, England, Mar. 16th, 1858; d. Bournemouth, May 5th, 1929.
