Surplice, Dr Reginald Alwyn. Mus.B., Hon.Mus.D. (1971), F.R.C.O., L.R.A.M. Studied at Reading University under Gustav Holst. Organist of Pangbourne Parish Church, 1918; Holy Trinity, Windsor; East Hampstead Church, 1923-25; assistant organist St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, 1932-45; organist of Bristol Cathedral, 1945-49; Winchester Cathedral, 1949-71. Taught at the Royal Academy of Music, London; King Alfred’s College; examiner to the Associated Board; conducted the Southampton Philharmonic Choir. b. Pangbourne, England, 1906; d. Apr. 21st, 1977.
